What Makes Chiropractic Unique?
There are many people who think of
chiropractic as just another branch of "medicine." Nothing could be further from
the truth! Chiropractic draws its uniqueness from its emphasis and philosophy a
truly different approach to health care.
First, chiropractic is natural. Unlike the
practice of medicine where drugs are introduced into the body, the chiropractor relies
upon his/her hands and knowledge of the spine to effect a change in the patients
condition. As a result, the dangers of side effects are bypassed. The use of drugs may
inadequately treat the patients symptoms while creating new problems at the same
time. While medical treatment may cause actual harm, chiropractic helps the body to
function at its peak, allowing it to heal naturally.
Second, chiropractic is non-invasive. When
surgery is performed, the bodys natural defense system is invaded and tampered with.
By opening the body, it suddenly has to deal with the introduction of foreign substances.
Surgery at times creates as many problems as it supposedly treats.
Next, chiropractic is treatment-oriented.
One of the problems in chiropractic insurance collections is the fact that insurance
companies are used to paying for diagnostic tests, but are not accustomed to paying for
treatment. Therefore, when they receive bills for lab tests, x-rays, or other diagnostic
procedures, they process and pay them routinely. However, when they receive a claim for
ten chiropractic adjustments or manipulations, they balk. Their idea of treatment is
usually medically oriented prescribe a drug. Because of the difference in
philosophy, the insurance processors look askance at the chiropractic claims.
Finally, chiropractic is unique because it
treats the cause of the problem rather than the symptom. Pain is a warning sign that
something is wrong with the body; all too often, people chase the pain with aspirin or
other pain-killers rather than finding and correcting the cause of the problem.
Chiropractic is unique because the doctor is not a symptom-chaser, but uses the symptoms
as guides to finding the cause of the problem.
